Our Story

We started Mitte with the belief that nothing is more fundamental to life than water.

When we looked at our current water sources, we saw a big problem.

Our tap water supply is becoming increasingly unreliable. Endless environmental concerns and increasing water crises have made the solution for clean and healthy water even more urgent. This concern drives people to pursue what they consider safer alternatives, possibly part of the reason why more than a million plastic bottles are sold globally every single minute. Of course, while this might meet hydration needs, it leaves behind a permanen, indestructible legacy.
Plastic eventually finds its way to our food chain, and the unknown impact of microplastics hovers over the entire industry.

Simply put: the water industry hasn’t seen much innovation in decades.

After working in the public, social and business sector, our founding team became fascinated by the water sector. They founded Mitte with the vision of providing a real solution to a real problem – to disrupt the industry and provide healthy hydration in a sustainable way.

We are a diverse and skilful team of scientists, engineers and experts at Mitte Labs who started this journey by rolling up our sleeves and learning everything we can about water. Now, we’re able to develop superior filtration and mineralization technologies that address this problem.

The word ‘Mitte’ refers to both the neighborhood at the center of Berlin and its meaning in German, ‘middle’. We believe the name aptly represents the significance of water: it is the element at the center of life, making up the world, and us.
